Manifest (2021) is Genesis Kai’s performance and documentation of the birth and inception of her digital body as she floats in a meditative state in a liminal space known as the ‘Embryo’—her point of origin and sentience; a womb between our physical reality and Genesis’ digital realm. Like a fetus that is intellectually matured, Genesis is surrounded by a womb of light and sound. In the ‘Embryo,’ light is a motif for Genesis' new consciousness and awareness, bringing forth humanity awakened by God's energy as the first element in the creation of life..

Genesis Kai is a chiral twin and AI-infused alter ego and persona created by Ming Shiu, a Hong Kong-Korean new media artist who explores reconnection with culture and heritage through transhumanist philosophy and multidisciplinary practices. The interpretation of cultural artifacts and elements of Asian heritage—subjects loaded with national yet intimate and personal significance—becomes a matter of open, ab initio curiosity and frank investigative interest for Genesis Kai. Her pieces have been exhibited globally at fairs including Asia Now (Paris, 2022 & 2023), Art Dubai (Dubai, 2024), and KIAF Hongdae Excursion with the Seoul Metropolitan Government (Seoul, 2024). Her work has been featured in Vogue Korea, Artnet, The Art Newspaper, The Economist Korea, Tatler Asia, and more.
