Eva Papamargariti: Disappear Here
Disappear Here (2026) is a chimeric audiovisual installation activated through a performance. It revolves around emerging forms of storytelling, storytellers, and mythologies that are crafted and disseminated in real time within the paradoxical realm of the current attention economy and doomscrolling.
The first myths and stories were told within small groups and communities that gathered around fire. They functioned as rituals of connectedness, attention, belonging, sharing, and communication. By examining storytelling devices, linguistic mechanisms, digital lore, communities, and visual tools that are constantly generated on the internet, the work aims to decipher and redefine how contemporary narratives are crafted and consumed in the era of the “extreme self” through a plethora of avatars, images, memes, short videos, AI prompts, and storytellers.
About the Artist
Eva Papamargariti is an artist based between Athens and London. Her practice spans moving image, printed matter, and sculptural installation, exploring the cognitive and affective relations between coexisting realities, where the grotesque, the mythological, the fictional, the eerie, the mundane, and the real converge. Using video, CG animation, AR, 3D scanning, textiles, sound, and text, she investigates notions of identification and metamorphosis, simultaneity, liminality, the dialectics of fluidity, the symbiotic relationships between human and non-human agents, as well as the construction of identity shaped by online presence.
She has exhibited in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and screenings worldwide, at institutions and festivals such as the New Museum (New York), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), MoMA PS1 (New York), Tate Britain (London), Museum of Contemporary Art (Montreal), MAAT Museum (Lisbon), MUTEK (Montreal), Transmediale (Berlin), Ars Electronica (Linz), and Athens Biennale (Athens), among others
She was a resident artist at Onassis AiR and Onassis ONX in Athens and New York (2024-25), the LUMA Foundation in Arles, France (2023), and at the New Now residency at Zollverein, Germany (2023). Her work is held in public and private collections, including DESTE Foundation, PCAI Collection, and Onassis Foundation.
