HERMILA CUEVAS
Hermila Cuevo is a Mexican American artist with Indigenous roots whose practice exists at the intersection of ancestral memory and contemporary experience. Rooted in a process of reconnection with cultural knowledge, histories, and lineages that were fragmented or left unnamed, her work bridges the personal and the collective. Working across media such as ceramics, painting, found materials, and technology-based processes, Cuevo blends traditional references with contemporary methods to create spaces where cultural memory remains active and evolving. Technology serves as a bridge in her work, extending ancestral narratives into the present while fostering communal engagement.
Trinity River Audubon Center
Trinity River Audubon Center offers community and nature education programs that connect visitors to the unique natural habitats of the Blackland Prairie and Great Trinity Forest. Once the site of Texas’s largest illegal landfill, the land has been restored into thriving habitats of forests, wetlands, and prairies along five miles of trails. The center exists as a reminder of the threats posed to native habitats and the resilience of nature. Since opening in 2008, it has engaged people in conservation with an approach that has served as a model for nature education centers nationwide. The site and building, designed by award-winning architect Antoine Predock, are sustainably built and LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified.

HERMILA CUEVAS
Hermila Cuevas es una artista mexicoamericana con raíces indígenas cuya práctica se desarrolla en la intersección entre la memoria ancestral y la experiencia contemporánea. Su trabajo nace de un proceso de reconexión con conocimientos culturales, historias y linajes que fueron fragmentados o quedaron sin nombrar, creando un puente entre lo personal y lo colectivo. Trabajando con medios como la cerámica, la pintura, materiales encontrados y procesos basados en tecnología, Cuevo combina referencias tradicionales con métodos contemporáneos para crear espacios donde la memoria cultural permanece viva y en constante evolución. En su práctica, la tecnología funciona como un puente que extiende las narrativas ancestrales hacia el presente, al mismo tiempo que fomenta la participación comunitaria.
El Trinity River Audubon Center ofrece programas educativos sobre comunidad y naturaleza que conectan a las y los visitantes con los hábitats naturales únicos de Blackland Prairie y Great Trinity Forest. Antes conocido como el basurero ilegal más grande de Texas, este terreno ha sido restaurado y transformado en ecosistemas de bosques, humedales y praderas que se extienden a lo largo de cinco millas de senderos. El centro existe como un recordatorio tanto de las amenazas que enfrentan los hábitats nativos como de la resiliencia de la naturaleza. Desde su apertura en 2008, ha involucrado a comunidades en esfuerzos de conservación mediante un enfoque que se ha convertido en modelo para centros de educación ambiental en todo el país. HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- 5–5:50 pm: AURORA has partnered with Los Primos, Trinity River Audubon Center, and Gallery 86 to kick off the evening with a community gathering. Participants should arrive no later than 5:50 pm to take part in the quest.
- 6 pm: This year, Art Quest introduces a new theatrical element in collaboration with Teatro Dallas. At 6 pm, Teatro Dallas performs and reveals the first clue!
- 6–7:30 pm: Follow the clues to find Art Quest clue cards hidden throughout the neighborhood. The first participant to collect and present all clue cards wins a sculpture by artist Hermila Cuevas.
- 7:30–9 pm: After the winner is announced, there will be a performance by the dance group Representa Foundation. The community celebration continues with local partners, art activities, music, and free food and drinks.
