HOW TO PARTICIPATE
COMMUNITY GATHERING
Throughout this Art Quest event (10 am–3 pm), AURORA will host a community gathering event in partnership with the African American Museum of Dallas. In addition to the scavenger hunt, participants can join to network and learn more about key community organizations, businesses, and public spaces. The artwork prize will also be on public view at the event and the artist will be present.
Nitashia Johnson
Nitashia Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and designer from Dallas, Texas. Growing up within the city, she used art as both an escape and a tool for self-expression, navigating challenges while holding onto a deep love for creativity. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Texas Woman’s University (BFA), and the Rhode Island School of Design (MAT), she now specializes in photography, videography, and digital media. Her latest work is rooted in visual, character-based storytelling that uplifts identity, community, and environmental justice. Nitashia is the founder of The Smart Project, a nonprofit dedicated to providing creative arts education to youth in Dallas. Her celebrated series, including The Power of Black Stories and The Faces That Face, shine a light on overlooked voices and lived experiences. Her work has been featured in major publications such as The New York Times, and she has received numerous honors, including being named a Sony Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence and the Juanita J. Craft House Artist-in-Residence.
Art Quest participants will have a chance to win Nitashia Johnson’s video artwork The Beauty of South Dallas.
The African American Museum of Dallas is a beacon of culture, history, and art dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of African Americans. Founded in 1974 by Dr. Harry Robinson, Jr., the museum is the only institution of its kind in the Southwestern United States. It houses one of the most extensive collections of African American art, artifacts, and historical archives, offering visitors an immersive journey through the contributions and experiences of African Americans. Located in the heart of Dallas, the museum serves as a vibrant hub for education, community engagement, and cultural enrichment through dynamic exhibitions, programs, and events that inspire and inform.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- At 10 am, participants should join the community gathering event at the African American Museum of Dallas.

At 11:30 am, the first clue will be handed out onsite to start the quest.
- At 11:40 am, the first clue will also be shared on AURORA’s social media channels—Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn—for participants not present at the event location.
- Participants are invited to follow along, racing to find three clue cards at three different locations. The scavenger hunt ends when the first person with all three clues cards returns to the community gathering event at the African American Museum of Dallas.
- The winner will take Nitashia Johnson’s artwork (along with a certificate of authenticity) and an Epson Home Cinema projector, and will have the opportunity to meet the artist.
- After the winner is announced, all participants will be invited to gather once again at at the African American Museum of Dallas to celebrate the winner, meet the creator of the artworks, and enjoy refreshments from food vendors.
