Overall Description and Objectives

The Spring internship is a hands-on learning opportunity with Dallas based arts organization AURORA. During the internship, interns will work toward applicable goals and skills that can be used in future career development in the fields of organization, management, administration, content marketing, research and editorial work. The intern will work directly with the AURORA team as they work toward a set of clear objectives. The intended goal is to have an inside look at how communication and production strategies work for the organization for the 2024 AURORA event season and to apply these practices in a real-world setting.


AURORA is a Dallas-based public arts organization working at the intersection of art, technology, and community. Through the AURORA Biennial exhibition and the year-round AURORA Expanded programming, we engage with regional and international audiences, aiming to establish Dallas as a global cultural center for art and technology.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to

These are the intended tasks to be completed before the end of the internship.

• Assisting AURORA team with event production duties in preparation, during and after events for the 2024 programming season.
• Assist AURORA team with general administration and research tasks, as needed.
• Work closely with the Communications team to assist with publishing social media content across social and digital media channels, as well as creating content in the form (but not limited to) of graphics, photos, videos, and GIFs.
• Assist with onsite photography and video for digital communications use at AURORA or AURORA-related events. 
• Perform other administrative and research duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently (after training period), as well as excellent organizational, planning and multitasking skills
• Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• High attention to detail, motivated, and self-directed
• Good IT skills and working knowledge of Wordpress and basic office programs, ie: Microsoft products, Google Drive, Dropbox, Trello.
• Knowledge of Photoshop, inDesign, Wordpress, Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve and/or Canva is preferred.
• Working knowledge of social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, X and TikTok.
• Experience with creating and publishing social media campaigns using graphics, photos, videos, and GIFs and texts for social media use is preferred
• A strong interest in and knowledge of contemporary art, specifically new media and time-based art is preferred
• Currently studying or recent graduate in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Media Art, Digital Media, Art HIstory or a similar field.

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Light Work - Exerting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office and exterior environments. Occasional physical effort required.

Availability

• Length of internship: 6 months
• Flexible schedule with daytime hours preferred, with some evening hours during events.
• 10-15 hours per week.

• Open to anyone 21+ and college students who are eligible to receive course credit for their work experience through a certified educational institution––must be arranged by the student and their institution.
